The Wrong Domino

Harry Kaplan figures he's earned a break from Missing Persons and Matrimonials, and the Camerounian case looks just the business. The client is an attractive divorcee and all he has to do is spend a bit of time in the African sun asking questions about the woman's sister - - who drowned out there twenty years before.

It should have been a walk in the park, and Harry should have known better. Private eye cases never run to form, and within hours of touching down in Cameroun he's getting into trouble. The divorcee is more than meets the eye, his first contact is dead on arrival, and the local police have him fingered as a hitman brought in from Chicago to settle a feud in the violent underworld of contraband oil from Nigeria.

But that's only the start of it.

It's 1974 and the West is reeling from the Arab oil embargo and the first ever energy crisis - - - and desperate times are leading to desperate measures. Harry doesn't know it, but his search for the truth about his client's sister is leading straight to Paris, and pretty soon they've been sucked into a mess of intrigue linking French Intelligence with an apparent drugs bust in Iran. It's one of those cases when an obscure private past collides with the future - - - and Harry is caught in between.
